"For my part, I travel not to go anywhere but to go. I travel for travel's sake. And to write about it afterwards...
But the great affair is to move, to feel the needs and hitches of life a little more early, to get down of this feather's bed of civilisation, and to find the globe granite underfoot and strewn with cutting flints."

Robert Louis Stevenson "Travel with a donkey in the Cevennes".

On 22 September 1878, the young Scottish Robert Louis Stevenson left le Monastier-sur-Gazeille in Haute Loire (France) and reached 12 days later Saint-Jean-du-Gard.

This trip which goal was both to recover from Fanny Osbourne's decision to depart to America and also to discover the land of the Protestant Camisards...

During his walk, he wrote a diary which would later become a book entitled "Travel with a donkey in the Cevennes".
Thanks to this book it was possible to trace his route which has since become the Stevenson Trail or GR70. This markedhiking trail enables hikers to follow the foosteps of the writer who will later also wrote the famous "Treasure Island" and "The Strange Case of Dr Jeckyll and Mr Hyde".
