The Camino Frances starts in France in St Jean Pied de Port and reaches Santiago in nearly 40 days!
This 6 day section starts in Sarria and ends in Santiago de Compostela in 5 walking days over the last 100 km which authorize the validation of the pilgrim passport called the Credential.
This section in Galicia is emblematic of the Camino with its Celtic culture! You will enjoy walking on rural dirt paths called corredoiras lined with chesnut trees and oaks, medieval stone bridges and churches with stopovers in aldeas (hamlets). You will climb the famous Monte Gozo before reaching the final destination : the friendly Santiago de Compostela. In 2021 this is a holy year and the Cathedral opens a special door all year long!
Day 1
Sarria
Arrive in Sarria with a bus or we can arrange a private transfer from Santiago to Sarria -
Sarria is the last place from which you can start your Camino and get your Credential that is the witness of your walk up to Santiago de Compostela.
Dinner and night in Sarria
Day 2
Sarria - Portomarin – 21.5 km – 5h30 walk. After a short drive from Samos to Sarria, the way crosses over a medieval bridge and through a Chestnut tree forest, from one hamlet to another linked by trails bordered by high stonewalls. In Portomarin the San Juan fortified church is worth the visit.
Day 3
Portomarin – Palas del Rei – 24 km- 6 h walk.
The way continues through peaceful villages to Hospital de la Cruz where begins eucalyptus forests. Arrival in Palas del Rei.
Day 4
Palas del Rei – Arzua – 26km – 6h30 walk.
On the way admire and observe the beautiful traditional houses. Arrival in the historical city of Arzua.
Day 5
Arzua- Labacolla- 26 km- 6h30 walk.
Another long day which is very important before reaching St James : here the tradition among the pilgrims is to wash before honouring St James.
Day 6
Labacolla- Santiago- 12 km – 3h walk.
The last walk to the Monte Gozo, before walking under la Porta do Camino (the Door of the Way) that opens on Santiago de Compostella.
Day 7
End of your travel after breakfast.
