France - Self-guided Walking - Cele River Figeac to Cahors
The Cele River runs across a peaceful, lush and large valley. It is a real paradise inhabited by men since the origins as seen through the great number of prehistoric remains and drawings that exist in the region. This is the ideal place for quiet holidays where hamlets, mills, rivers as well as vineyards, sunflowers or corn fields invite you to stroll.
This self-guided walking tour crosses many charming villages like Espagnac-Ste Eulalie was built around a priory that shelters a strange church on top of which is a perched pyramidal roof, half timbered, square tower.
Marcilhac-sur-Cele attends to its inhabitant since prehistoric time and is set up around its roman abbey radiating its strength and austere beauty.
In Cabrerets the Pech Merles Caves can be visited.
St Cirq Lapopie perched above the Lot River is on the list of the Most Beautiful Villages of France.
