Self-guided Cycling holiday on the Midi Canal.
This tour follows a route which takes you to the best sites Languedoc has to offer (including Carcassonne) while doing quality miles on quiet roads.
The trip can end in Sete, an authentic city living thanks to his lively fishing port, also called the Languedoc Venice. Before reaching Sete or Montpellier you ride follow beach road from Agde .
The peaceful Homps listed Port of Marseillan,and Carcassonne, the medieval fortress on the Unesco World Heritage.
This fully supported bike tour is set up by our expert of the Canal and proposes carefully chosen accommodation, fully equipped bikes and a detailed road book and maps.
Day 1
ARRIVAL IN CARCASSONNE
Arrival in Carcassonne. Possible visit of the city of Carcassonne
Bike hire for the day is an option (15€ per person). Night in Carcassonne
Day 2
THE CANAL DU MIDI FROM CARCASSONNE TO HOMPS - 41 km
Your bikes are delivered in the morning at your hotel.
After breakfast, you leave Carcassonne by the canal which follows the course of the River Aude, to enter the region of Minervois, a wine producing area
You cross charming hamlets, before arriving at the port of Homps.
This small and lively port is the perfect place to taste the good wines of the region at the end of the day. Night in Homps.
Day 3
THE CANAL DU MIDI FROM HOMPS TO CAPESTANG - 43 km
Downstream from Homps, the rugged terrain surrounding the canal
needed the building of impressive feats of engineering. That’s the reason
why over 4 kms no less than 4 bridges and aqueducts line your way.
Once you arrive in Caspestang, discover the castle and its 14th century collegiate church dedicated to St Etienne and its lagoon, from which the village gets its name, « Lou
Cap de l’estang ». Night in Capestang.
Day 4
THE CANAL DU MIDI FROM CAPESTANG A AGDE - 50 km
On this last day you will feel the sea air. Your arrival at the Etang
de Thau will not be without emotion! The small lighthouse
of la Pointe des Onglous appears as if it is the end of the
Earth. Arrival with a panoramic view over the Mont Saint-Clair, the Thau lagoon,
the oyster farms and the lovely listed port of Marseillan. Night in Agde
Day 5
THE CANAL DU MIDI FROM AGDE TO SETE – 35 km
This short stage between Agde and Sete invites you to stroll around
! A beautifully wild stretch between the Thau Lagoon and the Mediterranean Sea where you can watch the flamingos.Enjoy a bath before entering the city. Once you
arrive in Sète, you can make the most of the pretty fishing port known as the « Venice of the Languedoc ».Night in Sète
Day 6
THE CANAL DU RHONE FROM SETE TO MONTPELLIER - 45 km
End of the tour after breakfast if you end in Sete.
If you continue to Montpellier :
From Sète, your ride leads you along the « small » Camargue, following the Rhone-Sète canal. The birds reserve, not far from Palavas, where you can observe flamingos. A cycling track leads you into the heart of the beautiful city of Montpellier.
Day 7
Montpellier.
Departure After breakfast, leave this impossibly picturesque medieval city at the time of your choice. Please note that we can arrange additional nights if necessary
