France - Alsace - Self-guided Walking tour - Vosges mountain and Wine Road

Day 1

Arrival in Eguisheim This is one of the most beautiful villages on the wine road, 8 km from Colmar, nestled in a wonderful green setting close to ‘’3 Châteaux’’ in Eguisheim.

Day 2

Eguisheim – Turckheim ≈ 14 km - 8.7 miles - The first ascent leads to ‘’3 Châteaux’’ in Eguisheim (600 m) and later on to castle of Hohlandsbourg,which offers a panoramic view over Colmar and the Alsace Plain dotted with numerous villages. You then reach the valley that leads to Munster and spend the second night in the extremely beautiful city of Turckheim where each evening at 10:00 pm, a night watchman in traditional 16th century costume sings as he switches the streetlights off !

Day 3

Turckheim - Kaysersberg ≈ 14 km - 8.7 miles - The walk takes you from Turckheim to Kaysersberg, the birthplace of Dr Albert Schweitzer, the Nobel Peace Prize winner your itinerary then crosses the area from which famous Alsace vintages originate.

Day 4

Kaysersberg - Munster≈ 23 km - 14.3 miles - You leave Kaysersberg and the vineyards and walk through the Vosges Massif . Outstanding nature and landscapes in the Regional park of the “Ballons des Vosges”.

Day 5

Munster – Wintzfelden ≈ 15 km - 9 miles - You leave Munster and walk up towards Wassenberg (746 m). You pass the summit of Mühlenkopf (805m) and descend further down in the valley to discover an area with vineyards and the village of Wintzfelden.

Day 6

Wintzfelden – Eguisheim ≈ 17 km - 10.5 miles - Take an extremely beautiful terraced path dominating the Rhine Valley, and walk to Gueberschwihr. On this road you can see Celtic religious sites and an abbey before reaching Eguisheim, the village from where the walk started.

Day 7

End of the trip after breakfast
